Watch Mikhail Baryshnikov’s complete speech to the Northwestern Class of 2013.

A little bummed I didn’t end up going, but my former roommate went instead for me! I had to get ready for my graduation program luncheon. I’m so glad this video exists. Love love love.

{What I Wore: June 21, 2013 - Graduation Day!}

Yesterday I graduated with my master’s degree….I’m no longer a grad student, and that’s crazy to me. I’ve been a student for the past 23 years since I started preschool at age 3. This is quite surreal. But most importantly, it gave me the opportunity to wear a dress I bought at Target over a year ago but haven’t a place to wear it.

Reblogging photos from yesterday’s graduation! Officially no longer a student, which is crazy. But, knowing me, I’ll probably just take classes for fun now.

(Also, I never publicly stated where I went to graduate school on here because I wanted to keep it quiet, but it was probably pretty obvious. If not, here it is: I now have two degrees from Northwestern).

Spring is springing at Northwestern!

Thirty-three Northwestern University undergrads will be giving away $100,000 as part of a new interdisciplinary class, “Learning Philanthropy and Engaging in the Study and Practice of Giving,” in the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP).

Taught by SESP dean Penelope Peterson and former Spencer Foundation director Lauren Jones Young, “Learning Philanthropy” will examine the history and practice of philanthropic giving and, in a very real way, demonstrate the impact that charitable giving can have.

Iiiiiiinteresting.

Holy crap! And I don’t think Dean Peterson taught classes when I was an undergrad (at least not when I was in SESP), which is a bummer because I think it would have been great.

How about they donate it to an alumni who is about to have start paying back a lot of student loan debt? No? It was worth asking.

Go Cats!

Historically, polyandry was much more common than we thought.

Reblogging this because one of my professors wrote it!

No Halloween at Northwestern is complete with Eberhard Zwergel’s explosive chemistry show!

I’m sad I never went to his show as an undergrad, even though I heard about it every year. I wonder if he still blows up the lake?

My weekend at my parents’ house in a nutshell: kitty cuddles and delicious homemade chili cheese sweet potato fries while watching the (depressing) NU game on TV.

Although I do disagree slightly with my alma mater’s professor quoted in #2. I’d suggest taking classes that fulfill some core requirements, but that sound interesting. You don’t want to spend your entire freshman year taking classes that won’t count for anything other than electives. But, most classes a freshman would take probably falls under some sort of gen ed requirement anyway.
