(for an actual full-time job in higher ed). Keep in mind it’s Chicago and like 80 degrees outside. And I don’t own a suit.
Can I get away with a nice business-y tank dress (black or grey tweed) and a cardigan? Do I have to wear nylons/tights or is it apropos to be bare legged? The dress goes just past my kneecaps.
I know nothing.

Maybe swap the cardigan for a blazer or structured jacket (if you have one) - but I’ve seen a HUGE range of outfits, especially for women.

I wore slacks and a blouse to my last interview and got hired. Before, I’d always worn a suit. As long as you look professional, it’s fine.

I live in TX & refuse to wear suits to interviews…that said, I have a handful of very professional dresses I use w/sensible heels.No nylons

Panty hose, just take them off right after lol and yes the dress with a cardigan should be fine!

hmm. i used to wear stuff like that (and without nylons) for job interviews in education policy. also saw a range, definitely with what you describe included, when i was doing a lot of hiring interviewing. i think you’ll be fine and good luck!

I'm a 20-something Northwestern alum working and studying in Chicago.
In fall 2010 I started as a first year grad student at a medical school, but realized I wanted to be working with students instead of patients. I left the program to pursue a new graduate program, and I just finished my first year (of two) working toward my masters degree in higher education/student affairs.
This fall I began my first full-time job as an academic advisor and began my master's thesis.
